Job Overview
Table Mountain National Park is thrilled to offer its Internship Program for Students in 2024. This program provides a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in one of South Africa’s most iconic natural landmarks. Interns will engage in conservation efforts, environmental education, and park management, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the park’s natural beauty and biodiversity.
Position Purpose
The purpose of the Table Mountain National Park Internship Program is to provide students with practical experience in environmental conservation and park management. Interns will support various operational and educational activities within the park, gaining valuable skills and knowledge while contributing to the park’s mission of conservation and public engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with daily park operations, including maintenance, visitor services, and conservation activities.
- Support environmental education programs by helping to develop and deliver educational materials and presentations.
- Participate in fieldwork such as monitoring wildlife, conducting vegetation surveys, and managing invasive species.
- Help with the planning and execution of community outreach and conservation awareness campaigns.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, documentation, and promotional materials for park activities.
- Provide administrative support, including scheduling, organizing files, and handling visitor inquiries.
- Collaborate with park staff on special projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing park management and conservation efforts.
Education
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a recognized tertiary institution, pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Park Management, or a related field.
Experience
- Previous experience or internships in environmental conservation, wildlife management, or related fields is advantageous but not required.
- Demonstrated academic performance relevant to the internship position.
Skills
- Strong interest in environmental conservation and natural resource management.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Willingness to work in outdoor and sometimes challenging conditions.
