Job Overview:
The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is offering internship opportunities for 2024. These internships are designed to provide graduates with work experience in their field of study, contributing to SANBI’s mission to champion biodiversity research, conservation, and education. Interns will work within various departments, gaining practical experience and skills in alignment with their academic backgrounds.
Position Purpose:
The internship program is aimed at supporting young graduates in acquiring work experience in biodiversity-related fields, research, conservation, and administration. It also aims to promote skills development and support environmental management efforts in South Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in biodiversity research projects and conservation activities.
- Support in the development and implementation of educational and awareness programs related to biodiversity.
- Participate in the maintenance of SANBI’s biodiversity databases and information systems.
- Work closely with senior researchers, conservationists, and administrators on ongoing projects.
- Provide general administrative support to the department in which you are placed.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation related to projects and initiatives.
Education:
- A recognized undergraduate or postgraduate degree or diploma in one of the following fields: Environmental Science, Conservation, Biology, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Horticulture, or any related discipline.
- Additional training or certification in environmental management or research will be advantageous.
Experience:
- No prior work experience is required.
- Any previous involvement in voluntary work or research projects related to biodiversity, conservation, or education will be beneficial.
Skills:
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- A keen interest in biodiversity, conservation, and environmental sustainability.
