Job Description
South African Canegrowers is offering an exciting opportunity for 10 young South Africans to join its Youth Internship Program as Junior Farm Managers on various sugar cane farms in KwaZulu-Natal and the Malelane/Komati areas. This program aims to provide practical experience and in-depth knowledge of the agricultural industry. Successful candidates will be accommodated on the farm, ensuring a full hands-on learning experience.
Responsibilities
As a Junior Farm Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in managing daily farm operations, including planting, irrigation, and harvesting
- Monitoring crop production and managing farm workers
- Supporting the implementation of sustainable farming practices
- Assisting with financial planning and farm budgeting
- Reporting on farm productivity and operational efficiency
- Collaborating with farm owners and agricultural experts to enhance productivity
- Participating in decision-making processes related to farm management and production
Qualifications
For the Internship Programme:
- Diploma or Bachelor of Technology in a science-related field or agriculture
- Or a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics, Plant Science, or Production
For the Learnership Programme:
- Grade 12/Senior Certificate with a Bachelor Pass
- Minimum level 5 in Core Mathematics
Experience
- No prior work experience required. However, candidates must show a strong interest in agriculture and farm management.
Skills
- Proven leadership abilities at high school or tertiary level
- Passion for agriculture and farming practices
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to learn and take initiative in farm management
