Job Overview
The National Heritage Council (NHC) is offering internship opportunities for 2024. This program is designed for students and recent graduates passionate about cultural heritage and preservation. Interns will gain hands-on experience working in various departments, including heritage management, research, and outreach, contributing to the preservation and promotion of South Africa’s cultural heritage.
Position Purpose
The NHC Internship Program aims to:
- Provide practical experience in heritage management and preservation
- Enhance interns’ understanding of cultural heritage and related activities
- Develop essential skills through real-world projects and professional mentorship
Duties and Responsibilities
Interns will be involved in:
- Assisting with research and documentation related to cultural heritage projects
- Supporting the development and implementation of heritage preservation initiatives
- Preparing reports, presentations, and educational materials
- Engaging in public outreach and educational activities
- Performing general administrative tasks and providing support to various departments
Education
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Heritage Studies, History, Archaeology, Cultural Studies, or a related field
- Strong academic performance is preferred
- Relevant coursework or projects related to heritage management or cultural preservation is advantageous
Experience
- No prior work experience required
- Any relevant internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer work in heritage or cultural fields is a plus
- Demonstrated interest in cultural heritage and preservation is essential
Skills
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic understanding of heritage management or cultural preservation principles is beneficial
