Marriott International is excited to announce the opening of applications for its prestigious Youth Trainee Programme 2025. This unique opportunity is designed for young South Africans who aspire to launch a rewarding career in the hospitality industry. Marriott offers two distinct pathways in this comprehensive development programme:
- Accelerate Orientation Trainee Programme (1-year)
- Accelerate Programme (3-year youth development programme)
The Accelerate Orientation Trainee Programme is the first step in your journey, providing practical experience in a hotel environment. This one-year programme serves as an essential foundation before committing to the 3-year Accelerate Programme. If selected, you’ll gain valuable insights into the hospitality industry, ensuring that the profession is the right fit for you before committing to the longer-term training.
Responsibilities
As a participant in the Youth Trainee Programme, you will be expected to:
- Complete on-the-job training in various departments of a Marriott hotel (e.g., Front Office, F&B, Housekeeping)
- Gain hands-on experience in customer service, operations, and management
- Contribute to the day-to-day running of the hotel and participate in real-world projects
- Attend regular training sessions designed to develop both soft skills (e.g., communication, teamwork) and technical skills (e.g., hotel operations, management techniques)
- Be assessed regularly on your progress, and upon successful completion of the Orientation Programme, move forward to the Accelerate Programme
- For those on the 3-year track, continue to develop specialized skills in either Hospitality Management or Professional Cookery through formal academic training and industry-specific mentorship.
Qualifications
To apply for the Marriott Youth Trainee Programme 2025, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- South African citizen by birth
- Between the ages of 18 and 22 (must not turn older than 22 in the year of application)
- Completed Matric (Grade 12) or have an equivalent accredited NQF or NCV Level 4 qualification
- Have passed all 7 Matric (Grade 12) subjects with a minimum of 50% in each subject (preferably)
- Candidates who do not meet the required Matric results may still be considered on a case-by-case basis
- No post-Matric qualifications (NQF 4 / NCV 4) should have been obtained prior to applying
Experience
While no prior professional experience is required, candidates should demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry. Previous involvement in customer service, internships, or other related activities is a plus but not mandatory.
