Position Purpose

The purpose of this internship is to develop the capacity of young individuals to contribute to human settlements initiatives and policies. Interns will gain hands-on experience in various departmental functions, enhancing their understanding of housing and urban development processes while fostering their employability in the public sector.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of human settlement projects.
  • Conduct research and analysis related to housing policies and urban development strategies.
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and other documentation for stakeholders.
  • Engage with communities to promote awareness and participation in housing initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
  • Collaborate with team members on various projects aimed at improving human settlements.

Education Requirements

  • Must have a completed National Diploma or Degree in fields such as Urban Planning, Human Settlements, Public Administration, Social Science, or related disciplines.

Experience Requirements

  • No prior work experience is required. This internship is targeted at unemployed graduates seeking practical experience.
  • Any previous internship or volunteer experience in human settlements, urban planning, or related fields will be advantageous but not mandatory.

Skills Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Basic knowledge of human settlements policies and urban development (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A keen interest in public service and community development.

Beneficiaries of the Internship Programme

  • The internship program is open to unemployed South African youth aged 18 to 35.
  • Preference will be given to individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, in line with government employment equity policies.
