Job Overview
The KZN Amafa and Research Institute Internhsip is excited to announce the Cadet Internship Program for 2024. This program offers a unique opportunity for young professionals and recent graduates to gain practical experience in heritage conservation, research, and management. Interns will work closely with experts in various fields related to heritage preservation, research methodologies, and cultural resource management.
Position Purpose
The Cadet Internship Program aims to develop a new generation of heritage professionals by providing interns with comprehensive training and practical experience in the management and conservation of cultural and natural heritage resources in KwaZulu-Natal. Interns will participate in various projects and initiatives that support the Institute’s mission to protect, conserve, and promote the province’s rich heritage.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the documentation and conservation of heritage sites and artifacts.
- Conduct research and fieldwork related to heritage conservation and management.
- Support the development and implementation of heritage management plans and policies.
- Collaborate with community members and stakeholders in heritage education and awareness programs.
- Assist in the organization and facilitation of workshops, seminars, and events related to heritage conservation.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation for internal and external use.
- Provide administrative support to various departments as needed.
Education
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Environmental Science, Architecture, or a related field.
- A strong academic record from a recognized institution.
Experience
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in heritage conservation, research, or a related field is beneficial but not mandatory.
Skills
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- High level of initiative, adaptability, and eagerness to learn.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- A genuine interest in heritage conservation and cultural resource management.
