Job Overview
The Hawks Internship, formally known as the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), are offering internship opportunities for the 2024/2025 period. This program is designed for recent graduates who are interested in gaining valuable experience in law enforcement and investigative processes. The internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside professionals in a high-stakes environment, contributing to the fight against serious crime in South Africa.
Position Purpose
The purpose of this internship program is to provide young professionals with hands-on experience in various aspects of crime investigation and law enforcement. Interns will gain insights into the workings of the Hawks, contribute to important projects, and enhance their skills in a real-world setting, preparing them for a future career in law enforcement or related fields.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of evidence in ongoing investigations.
- Support case officers with administrative tasks, including documentation and case file management.
- Participate in surveillance operations and assist in gathering intelligence.
- Work with the forensic team in processing and analyzing crime scenes.
- Contribute to research projects aimed at understanding crime trends and developing prevention strategies.
- Assist in preparing reports, briefs, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, and team meetings to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Provide support in the coordination and execution of special operations and projects.
Education Requirements
- A completed Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Law, Forensic Science, Police Science, or a related field.
- Strong academic performance with a demonstrated interest in law enforcement and criminal justice.
Experience Requirements
- No prior work experience is required; however, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or part-time jobs in a related field will be advantageous.
- Basic understanding of criminal law, investigative procedures, and forensic science is a plus.
Skills Requirements

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
