Job Description
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) is offering dynamic and confident unemployed individuals the opportunity to participate in its General Internship and Cadet Programmes. These programs aim to provide valuable work experience, enhance skills, and prepare participants for successful careers in various fields related to international relations, governance, and public administration.
Stipend: R7,450.63 per month
Duration: 24 months contract
Responsibilities
Interns and cadets will be involved in a variety of tasks across different DIRCO departments, depending on their field of study. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in policy development, international negotiations, and trade-related matters.
- Conducting research on foreign policies, global governance, and international trade.
- Supporting administrative tasks within their respective units.
- Engaging in projects related to South Africa’s foreign policy and diplomatic initiatives.
- Collaborating with team members to meet departmental goals.
Qualifications
To be eligible for the program, applicants must hold a 3-year NQF Level 7 qualification in one of the following fields:
Cadet Programme 2025 – 2027:
- International Relations
- African Studies
- Political Science
- Economics
- Law
- International Trade and Investment
- Political Economy
- Development Studies
- Development Economics
- Public Governance
- Public Administration
General Internship Programme 2025 – 2027:
- Tourism & Hospitality Management
- Supply Chain Management
- Human Resource Management
- Public Administration
- Records Management
- Information Science
- Graphic Design / Communications
Experience
No prior work experience is required. However, applicants should demonstrate:
- A passion for international relations, governance, and public administration.
- An eagerness to learn and adapt to the professional environment.
- A proactive approach to tasks and responsibilities.
Skills

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office.
