Job Overview
The Department of National Treasury is offering internships for 2024 as part of a government initiative to provide unemployed graduates with valuable work experience in the public sector. This program gives interns the opportunity to develop essential skills in areas such as economics, finance, policy analysis, and public administration, preparing them for future career opportunities in both public and private sectors.
Position Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to give participants hands-on experience in the operations of the National Treasury. Interns will work closely with professionals in the department, gaining practical exposure to economic policy development, financial management, and public sector governance. The program aims to equip participants with critical skills that will improve their employability and enhance their career prospects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with economic and financial analysis to support departmental projects and initiatives.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of fiscal policies.
- Support the preparation of reports, research documents, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide administrative assistance in day-to-day departmental activities.
- Participate in policy discussions and workshops, offering input and feedback.
- Assist with monitoring and evaluation of national budget and expenditure frameworks.
- Collaborate with team members to support the Treasury’s overall strategic objectives.
Education Requirements
- Must have a completed National Diploma or Degree in fields such as Economics, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Business Studies, or related disciplines.
Experience Requirements
- No prior work experience is required. This program is aimed at unemployed graduates seeking to gain workplace experience.
- Previous internship or volunteer work in related areas will be advantageous but not mandatory.
Skills Requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work well in a team and independently.
- Basic knowledge of public finance, economics, and government structures (preferred).
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to a professional government environment.
Beneficiaries of the Internship Programme
- The internship program is open to unemployed South African youth aged 18 to 35.
- Preference is given to individuals from historically disadvantaged backgrounds, in accordance with government employment equity policies.
