Job Overview
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy is offering internships for 2024 as part of a government initiative to provide unemployed graduates with valuable work experience in the fields of mineral resources and energy management. Position Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to enhance the capacity of young individuals in the mineral and energy sectors. Interns will gain hands-on experience in various departmental functions, including policy development, regulatory compliance, and project management, thereby fostering their employability and understanding of the sector’s complexities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies related to mineral resources and energy.
- Conduct research and analysis on industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
- Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in project management activities, including planning, monitoring, and evaluation of departmental projects.
- Engage with communities and stakeholders to promote awareness and compliance with departmental initiatives.
- Provide administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
- Collaborate with team members on various projects aimed at promoting sustainable mineral and energy practices.
Education Requirements
- Must have a completed National Diploma or Degree in fields such as Mineral Resources Management, Energy Studies, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related disciplines.
Experience Requirements
- No prior work experience is required. This internship is designed for unemployed graduates seeking practical experience.
- Any previous internship or volunteer experience in mineral resources, energy management, or related fields will be advantageous but not mandatory.
Skills Requirements
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Basic knowledge of mineral resources and energy policies (preferred but not mandatory).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- A keen interest in public service and sustainable development.
Beneficiaries of the Internship Programme
- The internship program is open to unemployed South African youth aged 18 to 35.
- Preference will be given to individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, in alignment with government employment equity policies.
