Job Description
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is inviting unemployed youth to apply for several entry-level positions within the South African government. There are three positions currently open for application, all based in the Office of the Deputy Minister in Pretoria. These positions include administrative services roles, clerical support, and driving duties, aimed at individuals who have completed their Grade 12 (Matric) and are eager to start their career in government service.
Responsibilities
Administrative Services / System Clerk
- Provide general clerical support to the office.
- Organize, record, store, capture, and retrieve correspondence and data.
- Maintain and update registers and statistics.
- Handle routine inquiries and manage document flow.
- Provide supply chain clerical support, liaising with internal and external stakeholders for procurement.
- Process procurement forms and obtain quotations for office supplies.
- Maintain the leave register and personnel records.
- Arrange travel and accommodation logistics.
- Support financial administration, including verifying travel claims and managing petty cash.
Registry Clerk
- Manage the efficient flow of documents between the office, departmental units, and external stakeholders.
- File and organize documents in compliance with the National Archives Act and departmental policies.
- Serve as the primary clerical support for the executive authority’s office.
- Maintain and manage stationery stocks as chief user clerk.
- Study and apply departmental policies and prescripts accurately.
Driver
- Transport documents, employees, and guests to and from various locations.
- Maintain a log sheet and track the use of the allocated vehicle.
- Provide general support functions in the office of the executive authority.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures regarding transportation and vehicle use.
Qualifications
To apply for these entry-level positions, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent qualification
- Relevant skills and competencies based on the specific position (e.g., valid driver’s license for the Driver position)
Experience
- These positions are open to candidates with no prior work experience required for some roles. However, applicants with relevant experience in administrative or clerical work will have an advantage.
- Driver: A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
