Job Overview
The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) Internship offers an internship program for passionate individuals committed to promoting gender equality in South Africa. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to the CGE’s mandate and gaining valuable experience in human rights advocacy.
Position Purpose
The CGE Internship Programme aims to:
- Provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world gender equality issues.
- Develop future leaders in the field of gender advocacy by fostering essential professional skills.
- Offer interns the chance to contribute meaningfully to the CGE’s projects and initiatives, promoting a more just and equitable society.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Specific duties will vary depending on the assigned team or project. However, interns can expect to:
- Assist with research and data collection on gender equality issues.
- Participate in developing and implementing advocacy campaigns.
- Draft reports, presentations, and communication materials related to gender equality.
- Attend meetings and workshops, taking minutes and contributing to discussions.
- Support the CGE’s outreach and public education initiatives.
Education Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a tertiary institution (University/College).
- Minimum of second-year student status in a field relevant to gender equality, such as:
- Law
- Social Sciences
- Human Rights
- Gender Studies
- Public Administration (depending on the internship placement)
Experience Requirements
- Limited or no work experience is required.
- A strong academic record with a focus on relevant coursework and a demonstrated interest in gender equality are a plus.
Skills Requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
