Job Description:
The Adams & Adams Secretarial Trainee Learnership is a one-year program running from March 1st to February 28th the following year. This learnership provides both theoretical and practical training across key departments, including Patents, Trademarks, Commercial, and Conveyancing. Participants will develop essential secretarial and administrative skills, with a focus on typing, legal theory, and business administration. The program is divided into two phases, with trainees required to pass mid-year and final exams to progress.
Responsibilities:
- Develop typing and keyboarding skills during the initial phase of the program.
- Gain exposure to the legal environment and working life through practical training in various departments.
- Participate in advanced training on typing speed (60 wpm goal), audio typing, spreadsheets, presentations, and other secretarial tasks during the second phase.
- Engage in note-taking, writing letters and memos, and preparing relevant correspondence.
- Learn to manage time, practice telephone etiquette, and maintain a professional image.
- Contribute to team-based problem-solving and administrative tasks.
- Complete modules on business administration processes, communication, and office work.
Qualifications:
- Age requirement: Between 18 and 30 years.
- Minimum of a Grade 12 certificate with Computer Applications Technology or a post-matric qualification that includes Typing/Keyboarding and MS Office applications.
- Typing speed of at least 25 words per minute.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, with a C-symbol (60%–69%) being advantageous.
Experience:
- No prior work experience is required, but applicants should demonstrate a willingness to work hard and learn new skills in an administrative environment.
- Exposure to secretarial or clerical work is a plus but not mandatory.
Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic understanding of accounting and legal theory.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Professional image, grooming, and telephone etiquette.
- Willingness to take initiative and handle responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and solve administrative problems.
